Happy Valentine's Day!

My husband and I aren't really super affecionate. We don't kiss in public or put our hands in each other's pockets as we stroll through the park. We also don't generally shower each other with gifts on holidays, including Valentine's Day. So today wasn't a day of cards and roses and Victoria Secret, but I did realize that I like our love. I appreciate our love. It is lasting. It's all that stuff they talk about during wedding vows. For richer or poorer and in sickness and in health and in good times and bad and what not. Good stuff.

I saw various people running around today with pink bags and balloons and teddy bears and I just felt so grateful. Grateful that I have found the man of my dreams, the love of my life, my best friend, my media naranja. I don't have to buy all that shit to tell my husband I love him and I'm glad. Not that there's anything wrong with all of that. We occasionally give gifts or celebrate on these little holidays but on a day like today when he has to work till 1:00 am, I'm glad I don't miss it, or need it, for that matter.

The very best part of today? I think about love and relationships today more than other days and it's comforting to know that my husband loves me for me. He's seen me in my very worst, childish, drug addicted days, he's seen me without make up, he's seen me cry until snot pours out my nose, he's seen me laugh until I snort, and he still loves me. That's the best kind of love there is if you ask me.
